To the Editor:
I would like to thank everyone for the team effort in making the 10th Annual Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson Ball Drop on New Year’s Eve! Dedicated to longtime Village resident Bobby Barton, who is recovering from a severe stroke in Kansas, the evening was a smashing success.
Storm King Fire Engine Company #2 donated their bucket truck and sent volunteers Jeff Armitage, Doug Vatter, Kurt Hahn, George, Tim, Mike, and several others. Our dedicated police officers were, as always, reliable and helpful. Ray Yannone and his son, Ray Yannone, Jr. donated the Ball and the numbers, and made sure that the delicate Ball was set up properly and secured to the ground. Wynn and Ledley Klosky worked diligently on changing the numbers from 2010 to 2011. Mike Annan played a wonderful acoustic set and sang Auld Lang Syne at midnight. Larry and Melissa Stoffa provided him with microphones and amps. Billy Wilson lent us his deer winch to support the Ball. Brian Collins and Joyce Lavin helped me with numerous details.
But the real heroes of the night were Steve Sywak, Led Klosky and Bob Langston. They put their heads together and used their years of experience in theater and engineering to make sure the Ball was dropped safely and efficiently. These guys made a difficult job seem easy and had a lot of fun doing it as well.
And the clean-up? We didn’t want to have the DPW charged for overtime, so Elizabeth Klosky wrote to Flings Bins in Colorado and had those wonderful Recyclables containers donated for the event. She is a member of Cornwall Girl Scout Troop #23, and took it upon herself to organize the clean-up. Thank you also to Kate Benson for pitching in the next day.
The real “Thanks” should be to the crowd itself – probably the largest ever, for being so well behaved and appreciative. Already looking forward to next year! Thanks again to everyone!

Hats off to the whole committee. I wasn't there the night of, but walked into town Jan 1st. Awesome! No mess. You couldn't tell there had been a huge party the night before except a few overflowing garbage cans and recycled can in "flings" I love to see the spirit of the community shine. I will post photos of the day after
