Ouch! Well I should assume that you would of notified the mayor and the village board about such a meeting, would my assumption stand?

I would hope that Mr. Protter would have notified the Village Board of the event, as any good local citizen would have done. I am interested to hear what the Board Members have to say about the event, and about the information provided therein.

Well Steve if it was sooo important that Howard thought the board members should attend I would think a heads up would of been prudent. But he may of contacted Barbara and Joe and the board before-hand about this meeting that is what we are all waiting to hear. On a different topic I would hope that the Board members acknowledge the fact that Chief Williams is "present" and out there interacting with the community and the board members should dissolve the idea of consolidation at the next board meeting as I hear no one wanting to combine forces! Lets keep our community!

Can you say 'sour grapes'? Anyway, Howard worked with Bill Fogarty and Mark Edsall for quite a few years. Does he mean to say that in all that time no one ever attended a work shop or informational conference?Or is it that now that he no longer serves the board they don't know what they're doing?

<<I know Howard Protter, and I know that a petty feeling of "sour grapes" would never affect his actions.>>
Hmmmm . . . let's see - Protter won't let us know if he informed the Board of the workshop. He waits until after the workshop to berate members for not attending (without even asking if they knew about it and/or could not attend or made a decision not to attend). Sounds very much like sour grapes to me. What other motive for this could there be?

Who attended from the Town?

It would seem to me that upon learning that no representative of the Village attended a conference, any decent person would inquire politely as to the reason instead of sending a berating and sarcastic letter to the Editor. I think Mr. Protter's "motives" were entirely clear - although I can understand why he (and any supporter) would not like it being pointed out.
I see in today's news that the Village Board had been coming to the conclusion that this was a "dead-end". Perhaps they determined that their time, attention and energy was better spent on other matters that would not be futile?
Decent citizens give people - even elected or appointed representatives - the benefit of the doubt. Unless they have some personal agenda, that is.
I encourage every citizen to inform the Village Board of any activity, conference, idea, etc. that they think would benefit the Village. We are all in this together, after all.

I agree Catherine, fortunately we have a board that is approachable and they are more than willing to hear suggestions. We kind of have a grass roots mayor and board as the people have the say not certain individuals or agendas.
