General News: Town Sets Hearing on Development Grants
May 13, 2008
The town of Cornwall will hold a public hearing on a community block grant application on Monday, June 2, at 6:45 p.m.
Town supervisor Kevin Quigley said the hearing will allow the public to give input on projects that could be undertaken with the federal grant money. He noted, however, that the funds are subject to a diverse set of rules and that many projects would not meet the guidelines.
According to New York State Office of Community Renewal, the grants are intended to ensure decent affordable housing for all, to provide services to the most vulnerable in our communities, to create jobs and expand business opportunities for implementing a variety of community and economic development activities directed toward neighborhood revitalization and economic development, and to provide improved community facilities and services.
Quigley said that in the past, community block grants were used to repair the sewer line on Hazen Street. The federal money is distributed via Orange County.
