The whole town comes out to see the Music Man |

Lights… Camera… Snow?? This was the reaction of many parents at the Cornwall-on-Hudson elementary school when they learned that a snowstorm may lead to the cancellation of the opening of “The Music Man” production on Friday night.
Show director Sharon Zanin says that if the school is closed, there will be no play and the 99 young performers will have to wait another day to perform their numbers. Zanin said a performance will be added on Sunday at 2 p.m. to replace any cancellation on Friday. A second performance is already scheduled for Saturday night.
Zanin, who was assisted in the production by a dozen or more parents, including lead producer Kristine Williams, remained calm despite the forecasts. Her biggest concern was for the children who are very eager for opening night.
The children had a chance to dress up in their beautiful costumes on Wednesday when they gave a performance to their classmates in the school auditorium. The girls were decked out in frilly frocks and gorgeous hats and the boys in early 1900 garb to recreate the days when Harold Hill took River City by storm.
"The Music Man," of course, tells the story of the fast-talking Hill who won over the hearts of the people of River City and one woman, Marian the Librarian. With the able assistance of musical director Steve Kessler, the children sang and danced through tunes, including“Ya Got Trouble.”
People attending this weekend’s full performance will hear other memorable tunes like “Seventy-Six Trombones” and see the complex choreography for each act.
Dirctor Sharon Zanin says that they chose 'The Music Man" because it provided a lot of children an opportunity to have a part, noting that even a first-grader has spoken lines.
