One of the beautiful parts of the holidays is the chance to hear family and friends perform the traditional music of the season. On Thursday night, people got a chance to hear their fifth and sixth grade students perform at the Winter Concert and Art Show at the Cornwall Central Middle School.
Seven talented band musicians opened the program with The Star-Spangled Banner, followed the full band performing four holiday tunes under the direction of Steve Kessler.
One piece, Christmas in the Kitchen, featured a rare act: principal Diana Musich and vice principal Eric Hassler played percussion on kitchen pots and water-filled glasses.
A new music teacher led the orchestra, Peter Giorgio. The strings played two pieces, including Cripple Creek, which highlighted the fiddle-playing of sixth grader Jacob Harrell.
The evening ended with the fifth and sixth grade chorus, directed by Lisa Moriarty.
From Song of Peace, which opened the choral performance, to I Love Music, the eighty young voices put the audience in a holiday mood.
People attending the concert also had the opportunity to see their children’s artwork, which was on display throughout the lobby area.
