General News: SKAT Wins Business Idol Competition

Storm King Adventure Tours, the Cornwall-on-Hudson kayaking outfitter, has won the fifth annual Business Idol competition sponsored by the Orange County Chamber of Commerce.
SKAT, as the business is known locally, wowed the judges who had to choose among nine finalists at a competition held Wednesday at the chamber’s annual Expo at Anthony’s Pier 9.
Kris Seiz, who owns SKAT, says that she arrived at the competition with a kayak paddle, a life jacket and a backpack filled with 700 release waivers signed by her customers this year. She told the judges that the waivers represent the people who came to her business this year from New York City, Westchester County and other spots outside the area. Each of those people had the potential to visit area restaurants and lodging facilities as part of their visit, she said.
Her only challenge, Seiz told the judges, was attracting business from Orange County residents and her award for winning the Business Idol is designed to fix that. She says she will get a marketing package worth $16,000, including free radio ads that target Orange County. She’ll also get professional advise on how to optimize her business, which will wrap up its fourth season this fall.

Kris has done a great job marketing her business. I can only imagine the future once she gets more advise. Way to go Kris

Congrats. Great fun for the family. Kris also donates to Bannermans Island committee/vets and many others which she won't say but I will. She is a class act and her tours are great for everyone.
Thanks also to Deke Hazirjian(sp?) for rehabbing that old house into what has become a wonderful business for everyone over the objections of some of our C-O-H politicians. Growth is NOT a bad thing when it is done in such a great way. Thanks Kris and Deke
