Dear Editor,
I intend to vote “Yes” for the Cornwall Library referendum on November 18, because it will be a great improvement in our community.
The renovations and improvements proposed in the referendum will transform our library and allow it to serve more residents. Right now, the library’s programming
is at full capacity and it would be nice to have more space to add more educational events. Total library usage is up by 142% in the last five years!
The project will add 3,300 additional square feet or an increase of 30 percent. The extra space will allow the library to have four meeting rooms, including a conference room that will seat more than 100 people.
As a Friends of the Library Book Store volunteer, I also really like the idea of a more visible location and a sorting area.
The building also needs significant repairs, including a new roof and sprinkler system, which will be included in the project.
The public library is one of our community’s most important institutions and I think paying an extra 78 cents per week to create an amazing library is truly a great
deal.
I urge you to vote “Yes” for the referendum. Cornwall will enjoy it.
Best,
Kathi Ellick
