To the Editor:
The Cornwall Independence Day Committee is working on this year’s celebration for Friday, July 4, and we would like to share some news.
We are pleased to announce that our grand marshals for the parade will be the farmers, bakers and community servants Belding and Doris Jones Clearwater, who operate Jones Farm with the rest of their family. Jones Farm is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and Doris has lived there for all but 14 of those years. We are happy to honor and celebrate these Cornwall icons. More to come.
We are also pleased to announce a fundraising event, our second annual spaghetti dinner on Father’s Day Eve, June 14, in the gym at St. Thomas Church. The Knights of Columbus and the American Legion are helping the committee. It will be a special meal to honor fathers and to raise money for Cornwall’s Fourth of July Celebration, which costs $35,000. We might even serve a slice or two of carrot cake from Grandma Phoebe’s Bakery at Jones Farm (Phoebe was Doris’ mother). More details to follow.
As always the committee is looking for people to assist with the many tasks involved with putting the celebration together. We need help setting up on July 3 and breaking down on July 5, as well as making Cornwall’s Fourth of July one of most popular celebrations in the Hudson Valley.
For further information, visit our website at www.cornwall4th.org or our Facebook page, Cornwall Fourth of July.
Sincerely,
Brendan G. Coyne
Chair
