General News: Cornwall Commons Meeting

There were approximately 79 residents in attendance, give it take a few, at the Special Cornwall Town Board Meeting held at the Middle School on June 26th.
The meeting was orderly and the venue offered a location that was conducive to public discussion in that it was held in a comfortably air conditioned auditorium, which offered a public address system for use by both the Board and residents who spoke; an excellent location choice by Supervisor Kevin Quigley.
Numerous residents chose to speak up on the proposed zoning change and the great majority expressed a desire to have the Town Board proceed slowly in the review process. Many speakers received loud and resounding applause from those attending.
The majority of speakers requested that the Board preserve the character of the greater Cornwall area, giving numerous examples of those aspects of "Cornwall Life" they so dearly cherish.
The Cornwall Commons Development Team, including Developer Joe Amati, in colloquial English "Got beat up pretty bad", and were accused of presenting supporting documentation that was not pertinent, skewed, questionable as well as not accurate.
One undecided, non pro or con resident who spoke (myself) proposed that the Town Board negotiate with "Commons" Developer Joe Amato in the attempt get him to agree to procure a new piece of fire apparatus for the Town and Village Fire Departments as part of any deal to modify the existing zoning and PAC,. Other municipalities have made such deals in that any proposed Development would put extraordinary stress on the existing emergency services, due to an array of reasons, and such an arrangement would undoubtedly help to offset the stresses and future expenses incurred. He told the Town Board "get something for anything you give away.”
The meeting, which began at 7pm, was ended at 9pm or thereabouts with many residents requesting another special meeting on the "Commons" in the near future.
