To the Editor,
About 200 concerned people attended the informational meeting on the KJ Pipeline project Thursday, June 27th at the community center in the Town of Woodbury, hosted by Supervisor John Burke.
It was a good opportunity for me to see how an open, properly run informational meeting is held. Everyone present had the chance to speak, ask questions, and, if they didn't feel comfortable speaking in public, were invited to go up afterwards and speak directly with the Supervisor, counsel or Legislator Donnery. What a concept.
What struck me as even more important were Supervisor Burke's words in his opening comments in which he said "This is a gut-check." I couldn't agree more.
The information was an eye-opener in addressing Cornwall's concerns. We must act and we have to act NOW to protect ourselves and our precious water rights for the future of this community. The history of this project, and its potential effects on the water supply of the surrounding wells, our surrounding communities, the impact on the environment and wastewater issue is something every property owner should be aware of.
Woodbury hired special counsel for this. Cornwall should, too. In addition, contact your local, legislative and state representatives and ask them what steps they are taking to represent you, and to protect Cornwall and the surrounding communities. It's a gut-check folks.
Randy Clark
Councilman, Town of Cornwall
