During the height of the sudden severe thunderstorm this afternoon, June 24th, the Cornwall Volunteer Fire Department responded on mutual aid to the scene of fully involved house fire on Hemlock Street in Fort Montgomery to assist the Fort Montgomery VFD.
The cause of the fire is not known, but may be the result of a lightning strike, and reportedly a propane tank had been involved and exploded.
Other Fire Departments on scene were Highland Falls and West Point.
During the severe storm the Village of COH had at least two calls of electrical transformer explosions and the Town if Cornwall also had a few storm related calls.
Power was lost in several areas and on the Thruway (I-87) in Woodbury the occupants of a vehicle stuck in water up to the windows had to be assisted,
