General News: Fire at Newburgh School

A fire broke out at Gidney Avenue School this morning. According to Chief Mike Vatter, Newburgh Fire Department received the call at 11:26am and were on the scene wihim three minutes. The fire started in room 208 and the second alarm came at 11:46 am. Several fire departments assisted which included Vails Gate, Winona Lake, Coldenham, West Point, Castle Point, Goodwill and Middle Hope. The fire was brought under control by 12:15pm. About 700 students, faculty and administration were safely evacuated. There were no reported injuries but a teacher fainted. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
