Dear community,
I would just like to write a letter to recognize our Board of Education for their diligent and intense efforts to do what is best for our schools and our children.
Many people knock the board as if they are hiding information, or dangling carrots of cutting programs that they don't really have to cut. Then, ultimately, when we are fortunate enough that they have come up with a budget that works out to our best result possible, people think it's that the board was holding out and saving these options just in case. Well I've seen first hand the hours and hours and angst and discussions and disputes and dialogue that goes on day in and day out so that they can come up with the best budget they can come up with. They aren't holding back on anything. Everything is always a possibility to be cut from the budget and they explore every option they can think of, as well as the options that the community suggests.
The board is very transparent. People are welcome at all meetings. During these meetings the board openly discusses choices, options, decisions, etc... They debate amongst each other which shows the differing opinions and the process to hash things out as a board and the willingness to hear each other and the audience members.
So please clear your mind of those non - truths and focus on the fact that the board (with the communities input) has come up with a sound budget, that is at the tax cap, that is the best case scenario possible to do what's best for the kids.
Please see the positive in the work they do, and please don't assume that they just make stuff up just because. That's not the kind of town we live in and that's not the type of people we've elected to make up our board.
And please Vote YES on June 18th!
Thanks for listening,
Nicole Gold Roby
