Letter to Media
from Joe Barth, president, Cornwall Public Library Board of Trustees
On April 9th Cornwall Central School District residents will be asked to vote to approve Cornwall Public Library’s proposed operating budget for the upcoming year and to elect one member to the library board of trustees. As you think about your vote, please consider the outstanding value that the library offers to the Cornwall community.
A glance at a weekly activity schedule shows programs for all age groups of our community, from preschool children to seniors. The range of resources includes the traditional book and magazine collections as well as a range of electronic services including e-books, test preparation aids and tutorials, and on-line reference databases covering a wide range of topics – all of which are accessible through the Library’s website. Don’t forget the free WiFi that is available 100% of the time the library is open. All of these services are delivered by a friendly, caring, and competent staff. All in all, the Library is one of the best values available in our community.
Cornwall Library continues to be an active community hub. Last year the Library’s 9,222 active card holders borrowed 192,196 items. That reflects a 5% increase in circulation overall, and a 16% increase in circulation of children’s items over the previous year. There were 159,142 visits to the library averaging over 450 visits a day. Program attendance was up, website visits were up, and in-house computer use increased. These statistics underscore the vitality and energy that the Library staff members put into their work.
Let’s help this vibrant organization continue to be able to provide the high standards in programs and services that you deserve and to which you’re accustomed, in the upcoming year. We can do it with your support of the Library budget on April 9th.
