HHNM: Eastern Bluebird
|
Learn about the Eastern Bluebird and build a bluebird box to take home at the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum. |
On Sunday, February 16 at 10 a.m., come to the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center, entrance on Muser Drive, across from 174 Angola Road, Cornwall to welcome spring with the return of the Eastern Bluebird! Join environmental educator Carl Heitmuller to learn about their decline in the 20th century and their resurgence in the last decade. “Bluebirds are a member of the thrush family, as are robins,” says Carl. “They are cavity nesters and require either natural cavities in trees or nest boxes to raise their young!” Participants can build a bluebird box to take home for an additional supply fee of $15. Please bring a claw hammer and Phillips head screwdriver. For adults with or without children and children ages 5 and up. Weather permitting take a walk with Carl to look at the museum’s bluebird boxes. Pre-paid registration is required. Admission: $7/Adults - $5/Children. Museum Members: $5/Adults - $3/Children. For online registration and to preorder bluebird kits plus more information visithhnaturemuseum.org or call 845-534-5506, ext. 204.
