Jim Lennon initiated as new Cornwall Lion by Michael Summerfield (L) and Membership chair Peter Osinski (R) |
March 08, 2013
from the Cornwall Lions
The Cornwall Lions Club in a continuing effort to support local business, recently held a meeting at Leo's Restaurant and Pizzeria in following their proposed and temporarily adopted (pending trial result during test period) policy of holding one monthly meeting at a site other than the normal Cornwall Lions home location. The "visit" to Leo's proved to be a great delight in that the ambience, the service and the tasty meal, with Leo's generous servings, was simply excellent. The meeting, held Tuesday February 19th, was a fine choice indeed by the Cornwall Lions Club officers! As an added bonus to a "culinary treat", all in attendance enjoyed viewing all of the "original artwork" of Cornwall's very own renowned artist Nita Klein which was on display at Leo's in a free to the public exhibit for the month of February.
Membership Chair, Lion Peter Osinski initiated his first new Lion: Jimmy Lennon [sponsor: Michael Summerfield]. Jimmy is semi-retired, providing care for his grandchildren and spending considerable time as a roving photographer, generously contributing much of his time and effort to support Cornwall-on-Hudson.com/Cornwall-NY.com. Jimmy is personally responsible for submitting photos of several Lions events and gaining press coverage for us.
Chairman Peter Brandt attended the February 11th meeting of the Orange County Sight and Hearing Committee. He picked up a few eyeglass drop-off boxes - one now installed at the new DeCicco's Market. Peter also reports that John at Hazards Pharmacy succeeded in getting St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital to place boxes in its facility. A new shipment of boxes has arrived - just in time for the April eyeglasses recycling effort. The listing of all current locations for collection boxes is now on the website.
The March meeting held 3/5/13 at the Canterbury Inn, featured guest speaker Maj. Jeffrey Coverdale of the New York Military Academy. Major gave a presentation on the recently announced affiliation of the Obridge Academy and NYMA.
Goal is to have 80 members in our 80th year! We are now at 79! Do you know any potential Lions? Founded in 1932, the Cornwall Lions have a rich and storied history of service to the community of Cornwall, NY its environs and the world. For more information please visit www.cornwalllions.com.
