General News: Pistol-permit Holders Gain Privacy
February 26, 2013
By Joseph Oliveto
According to The Poughkeepsie Journal, New York citizens who have pistol-permits may now fill out a form which will allow them to keep their information private. Pistol-permit holders who do not fill out the form may have their information made available through the Freedom of Information Law.
The official website of the New York State Troopers contains information stating that the forms are available through licensing offices, and are available online at www.troopers.ny.gov/optoutfoil.
Once the form has been completed, it is to be brought to the local licensing office for processing at:
Orange County Clerk
Attn: Pistol Permits
255 Main Street
Goshen, NY 10924
The information from the State Troopers website urges citizens to fill out the form prior to May 15, 2013 “to avoid any disclosure.”
Following The Journal News’ publication of a map displaying of pistol-permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties, many gun owners have been angry that their personal information has been made available to such a degree. The opt-out form ensures that such people may still maintain their privacy.
