CORNWALL, NY – The Cornwall Public Library Foundation has just received a technology grant in the amount of $7,500 from the Verizon Wireless Foundation. The total amount will be given to Cornwall Public Library to be used toward the launch of a new Library initiative in early childhood literacy, for the purchase of iPads and special software developed for this purpose.
“Liz Fisher, one of our Library’s children’s services librarians, learned of this early literacy program at a NYLA (New York State Library Association) YSS (Youth Services Section) conference last year. At the request of their patrons, the Library has been looking for ways in which to add and enhance technology availability. Working with limited space in which to do so, this concept seemed like a wonderful solution for our Children’s section, said Anna Tilley, President of the Foundation. “Verizon Wireless Foundation is one of the few resources for a grant supporting technology, and we are most grateful for their generosity.”
Karen LaRocca-Fels, Library Director, indicated that the Library will be adding the children’s iPads and software later this year. “The Verizon grant certainly gives us a very solid start on this exciting initiative,” said Mrs. Fels.
