The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum "Outdoor Discovery Center", located on Kenridge Farm Drive in Cornwall, Saturday, February 2, 2013, held their "Ground Hog Day Prognostication", the second of what will be an annual event, before a record crowd of visitors, adults and children alike, all of whom braved a cold chill of this clear winter morning, in anticipation of the weather forecast by a perennial soothsayer.
Irregardless of whether it was to be six more weeks of winter or not (the crowd seemed equally split regarding desired prediction) it was very evident from the merriment and smiles on the faces that all would leave the Museum very happy after a great morning of family fun.
A large crowd of visitors with well over 100 registered as of 9:30 an with a great many "walk-ins" arrived without a pre-registration. Estimated crown upon start if event at 10 am 170 + or - a few.
Melissa Gillmer, head keeper at the Trailside Zoo at Bear Mountain, carried "Norris" (in travel cage) from his cozy nook out to his "big debut", in that this prognostication will be his very first.
Norris, with the help of environmental educator, Carl Heitmuller, predicted another six weeks of winter weather for those of us in the Hudson Valley.
