Robert S. Ross Promoted to President of St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital
St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital Board of Trustees announced that Robert S. Ross has been promoted to the position of President, effective January 1, 2013, while Allan E. Atzrott continues to serve as Chief Executive Officer.
According to Douglas Hovey, Chairman, the process has evolved over several years. “The Board has been working diligently on a strong succession plan that will benefit our hospital community. We believe that under Rob’s leadership, we’ll work together to build upon the legacy that Allan began.”
Ross, with over 20 years of hospital leadership experience, has been with St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital since 2001. Most recently serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, he has led areas of hospital operations, clinical services and strategic planning initiatives. Ross has worked extensively with the physician community to position the hospital for the future, and led a $125 million facility expansion program including the new Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Patient Unit Renovations, Parking Garage, and the Littman Cancer Center.
Ross received a Masters of Health Services Administration from The George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer and Information Science from Brooklyn College. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Atzrott, who joined SLCH in 2000, announced his retirement plans formally last year to the Hospital Board. He has led the effort to assure a smooth transition. “Rob’s success operationally has positioned SLCH to respond to the changing needs of the community. A strong succession strategy is vital to the continued growth and expansion of the St. Luke’s Cornwall Health System. Given Rob’s tenure within the organization, I am confident the transition will be seamless.”
Ross said he is honored by the promotion, and looks forward to working with the Hospital Board in an increasingly complex health care system. “St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital has a tradition of serving the community. Our challenge now is to create the health care delivery system of the future focused on improving the health of the community we serve. We know it will be different, but our commitment and mission must sustain.”
SLCH Celebrates Tony Leonardo’s 90 Birthday
Newburgh, NY – On Monday, December 17, St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital (SLCH) gathered for a luncheon to celebrate long-time volunteer Tony Leonardo’s 90th birthday. Members of the SLCH staff, volunteers, as well as the city of Newburgh’s San Miguel Boy’s Choir and the Leonardo family joined in the celebration.
Tony Leonardo has been a volunteer at SLCH for 18 years supporting the information desk, greeting patients and visitors, and delivering flowers to patients throughout the hospital. Guests of the luncheon were able to show Tony a token of appreciation and joined 12 members of the San Miguel Boy’s Choir – led by Father Mark Connell and Shayne Bowman – for a Christmas carol and ‘Happy Birthday’ sing-along.
“In my time here, I have seldom seen a day where Tony hasn’t been greeting patients and visitors,” said Sue Sullivan, Vice President of Advancement and Governmental Affairs. “Tony is a dedicated member of the SLCH family who has brought joy to many patients and visitors, and we are grateful to be able to celebrate his birthday with him and his family.”
