Saturday night December 8, 2012 marked the first night Chanukah and the first candle lighting of the Menorah in Cornwall-on-Hudson.
Suzy Yarmus shared this photo taken by Sharon Murphy. There was a good turnout for the lighting. To celebrate the first lighting, children took turns reading about Chanukah. India Braine got to light the first candles. Her father, Bill Braine, helped her by lifting her up to the Menorah. Ariel played the Dreidel song on her recorder which she practiced all afternoon to prepare for the ceremony and Suzy said, “She didn't squeak at all.”
The next lighting ceremonies will take place Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 5:30 pm, Newburgh Mayor Judy Kennedy will be present at the lighting at 5:30 on Martin Luther King Jr. Bvd. and Second Street. Celebration to follow in the Yellow Bird Building (Downing Film Center) 19 Front St. Newburgh waterfront.
