From the Cornwall Library
Many of the young participants in Cornwall Public Library’s 2012 Summer Reading Program sought reading sponsors so they could participate in Heifer® International’s Read to Feed Program.
Read to Feed is a reading incentive service-learning program that offers global education opportunities and fosters in your children a love for reading, a passion to help others and a way to help create a better world. Heifer's Read to Feed resources make the program fun for the readers and easy for the leader. Children (individually or as a group) get sponsors for each book they read during a particular time frame. At the end of the program, the group pools its funds and donates them to Heifer® International to help Heifer® assist millions of families around the world feed their families and reach self-reliance through the gifts of livestock and training.
On Election Day, patrons were invited to vote for their choice of gifts to be donated with sum total of $100 reflecting the amount raised by Cornwall’s young readers matched by a gift from the Friends of Cornwall Library who, for a 2nd year, partnered with the children for the Heifer® initiative. Voters selected to purchase five flocks of chicks for Heifer® International to provide as part of their outreach.
