General News: Cornwall Commons Discussed at Board Meeting
November 19, 2012
The Cornwall Town Board convened at Town Hall on Tuesday night, November 13, 2012 for a Regular Meeting. Although few members of the community were in attendance, those who commented at the end of the meeting all expressed the desire that the Board keep citizens updated regarding the progress of the Cornwall Commons development.
Among the resolutions on the agenda for the evening, the one regarding the Cornwall Commons provoked the most discussion amongst members of the board. Board member Randy Clark wanted to make sure that the resolution did not grant the developers “carte blanche” to move forward with its project. After a discussion of the issue, the Board decided that the goal of the resolution at the time of the meeting was to open up a dialogue between the developers and the Town’s consultants. The developer is seeking to alter the Planned Adult Community law so that the Commons project can move forward while opening its doors to a wider range of age groups.
When the time came for public comment, the few people in attendance all agreed that the Board should make certain that any developments on this issue remain as transparent as possible for the community. The Town Board recommended that those interested in following the progress of the Cornwall Commons project regularly check the Town website and attend any future meetings to keep up with the issue.
During the meeting, Mr. Clark also made a point of reminding the Board and the audience that the communities affected by Hurricane Sandy are in dire need of help. He expressed the belief that the devastation wrought by this storm will take years to fully recover from, and urged anyone who can to provide whatever aid they can.
The next Regular Meeting for the Town Board is scheduled Monday, December 10, at 7:30 PM.
