Local woman to run NYC marathon for Autism Speaks
Melanie Larkin of Cornwall-on-Hudson will be running in the New York City marathon, November 4, 2012 on behalf of her nephew Quinn Elliott and the efforts of Autism Speaks. Melanie has been running for about 4 years now, building up to this moment, the grand prix of running. Gaining entry to the marathon through Autism Speaks has made the experience of training for the marathon that much more meaningful to her.
The choice of this particular charity was clear, after having witnessed first hand the struggles Quinn's mother, Sarah Larkin Elliott (formerly of Cornwall-on-Hudson) faces daily having an autistic child, as well as countless other mothers and family members, who are challenged with finding answers and help.
Quinn was diagnosed on the spectrum right before his 3rd birthday. He is now 6 years old and is fortunate to be in a school district that offers the services he needs. Melanie runs with the following thought in mind, "while I may not have the knowledge to diminish the effects of this disorder, I want to get funding to the people who do".
Donations can be made to Autism Speaks at the following website:

As of October 23, 2012 Melanie has raised over $1,800 towards her goal of $3,000.
