General News: Local troop joins Great Girl Scout Hike
October 10, 2012
The Cornwall on Hudson Girl Scouts, along with the West Point Girl Scouts, hiked the Bear Mountain Bridge as part of the The Great Girl Scout Hike.
Girl Scouts were to choose a section of the Appalachian Trail to hike in honor of Girls Scouts 100th anniversary. The hiking journey started Monday, March 12, 2012 (Girl Scouts 100th birthday) and ends Wednesday, October 31, 2012 (Juliette Gordon Low’s 152nd birthday).
Troop 48 Brownies and Daisies went on their hike October 8th, gathered at the Fort Montgomery Visitors Center and with the help of volunteers and parents made the trek back and forth over the bridge. The girls spotted an eagle flying nearby while they asked questions about the construction of the bridge. The girls earned a special patch for the efforts named “Hiking the Appalachian Trail In Bits & Pieces.”
