Letters to the Editor: Appreciating Volunteer Emergency Responders
September 23, 2012
It's great we hosted the Orange County Volunteer Firemen and their Parade. These men and women put a lot of time, energy, heart and muscle into protecting all of us at all hours of the day and night as well as on the weekends and holidays when all the rest if us are busy doing whatever it is we do and while we enjoy the comforts of our home and our families.
The next time we hear that fire horn, whistle or siren, we should stop for a minute and think about the men and women who are leaving their jobs, families, homes, hobbies and, more often than not, their beds in the middle of the night, to rush to the firehouse or scene, in good weather as well as bad, to save and protect one of the rest of us, our family , our property or possibly our place of employment.
And there are many other volunteer emergency responders, such as the Fire Police, Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Auxiliary Police who should also remain in our thoughts and prayers.
All of the men and women of all the above organizations are a great asset to our communities and they are the atypical citizen - people who give back more than they receive.
These Volunteers are great role models and are the backbone of our communities. They are the mortar that holds the quality of life we all enjoy, and expect without giving it a second thought, all together
THANK YOU ALL, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!!!
ps: as an after thought, when you are driving and you see a red, blue or green flashing light, pull over and give them the right of way - you never know, they may be going to your home or to assist your child, a relative or friend. Give them the courtesy they deserve and the courtesy you would want others to give them if they were enroute to help you or yours.
