July 05, 2012
The Cornwall Fourth of July 2012 celebration kicked off with a steamy start with breakfast served at the Highland Engine Co. and soon after the annual Pet Show began at 10am, run by the Catholic Daughters of Americas. Village Mayor Brendan Coyne joined the judges and Nancy Torres was the MC. Children paraded their pets in front of the judges in hopes of winning in categories such as "most resembles owner", "shortest nose bridge" and "shortest tail". There were so many dogs entered in the small dog category that it caused a 3 way tie for "smallest dog". The beta fish presented in it's tank was surely the "coolest" pet considering the temperature! The Cornwall NY Dog Park had a table with information about opening day, July 29th. The Canine Sanctuary also had a table and were busy taking photos of pets and their owners.
After the pet show the crowd moved on to the days festivities, to browse the many tables at the craft fair, start the children's games and work up appetites for the pie eating contest.
