General News: CCMS Students Take Part in Global Concert
March 07, 2012
Singers at the Cornwall Central Middle School will gather in the school’s cafeteria on Thursday, March 8 at 6:30 pm to take part in the Concert for Music in Our Schools Month, a sing-along concert linking students around the globe through music. Music teacher Valeria Ransbottom is leading the performance.
The National Association for Music Education has been organizing the world concert for 27 years to raise awareness of the importance of music in school. Local school ensembles and special guest hosts who illustrate the concert theme of “Music Lasts a Lifetime” will be part of the global event.
The pre-recorded video to which the students and guests will sing-along features a high school percussionist and choir member, a U.S. Army Band member and an American Idol participant turned math teacher.
The 2012 concert program includes “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Discussin’ Percussion,” “Rock Island Line,” “Feel the Beat,” “El Vito,” “Dona Nobis Pacem,” and “Everlasting Melody.“
Students from 26 states will take part in the concert, which will be livestreamed. Visit the National Association for Music Education website for details.
