The village of Cornwall-on-Hudson once again has a chief of police.
The village Board of Trustees voted to appoint Sgt. Steven Dixon to the position of Chief during the monthly board meeting, Monday. Dixon’s appointment ends a nine-month search to replace former Village Police Chief Paul Weber, who stepped down in May of last year. Dixon’s appointment will take effect Thursday, March 1.
The board had thought the search was put to an end last October when it conditionally appointed Richard Bunyan of New City in Rockland County as chief; however certain issues with Bunyan’s contract caused the board to eventually drop him.
Dixon joined the village police force as sergeant in late December shortly after retiring from the Town of Cornwall police department. Dixon will receive $30,000 a year as part-time Chief of Police and has no specified term of office.
Comments:
Excellent choice. Now this is a positive for the village that I'm sure everyone can agree. With calmer heads we can keep achieving steps forward.
