Letters to the Editor: Was Village Meeting Video Edited?

February 21, 2012

To the Editor:

On February 16 of this year I commented on Andrew Argenio’s letter regarding the DPW building being too hastily built. Along with his letter he included the youtube video of the meeting. My comment is there for all that wish to read it.

I did not appreciate Andrew calling the DPW building a clubhouse at the end of the video and I called him out on it. One just needs to read his responses. I think I hit a nerve.

I was out of town and my cell phone was dancing with people and friends telling me the original video had been altered! I arrived home and watched again and sure enough Andrew stops the video short of his crude comment to the Board, village employees and the public. I am almost certain the minutes/recordings of this meeting will bring out the truth along with eyewitness accounts etc.

Andrew claims to be the champion of truth in the Village.

Andrews selective use of his youtube channel and censorship of these recorded meetings is Andrew sending a message of his own agenda and not of the collective Village Board. I think Andrew left a lot of truth out of the end of that video.

By definition, if Andrew is censoring one of his videos, he is probably censoring them all. The champion of truth? Hardly.

Be advised, if you can’t believe what Andrew is putting on his youtube channel then it should be assumed you can’t believe what he tells you either.

Thank You.

Comments:

Very good call Dave as you are 100% correct , the video has been shortened by close to a minute so it should make one wonder.

WOW! I have heard from numerous other people that the video's are altered. But I like to give people the benefit of of doubt. I heard about Andrews comment from so many people who attended the meeting that I know the clubhouse comment was made. But to know the video was censored is proof enough for me that the rest of them were also.

Andrew can do whatever he wants with the video. It is HIS Youtube Channel. If you want to create your own video, do it. You or the mayor or Edsall or Kane can create any video, anytime. Youtube is free.

Ms. Tomko:

Your right, Argenio can do whatever he wants with HIS youtube channel and
video's. This is still America and he has that right.

My problem is when he posts these videos and champions them as the truth
when, indeed, they have been censored is fundamentally twisting the truth to
fit his or others agendas. This was a public meeting, not Andrew's children
learning how to skateboard. Huge difference in terms of censorship.

Argenio is a public official elected to be honest with the public he serves.
He has been posting these videos as the truth for years ( most, not as a
trustee) and more than likely, they are not 100% correct and or truthful.

The minute he took his oath as trustee, the entire ballgame changed.

If you or anyone else would like to listen to the audio only portion of the
end of the meeting it is posted to my Facebook page.

Thank you.

I have taken some heat for not posting this audio on this site from friends and people. Here it is. /Users/daviddefreest/Desktop/VIDEO'S/IMG_0568.MOV

Thank you

David -
Exactly...you each have personal info posted at your preferred personal sites. There is NO official COH Youtube channel, Facebook page or podcast. How would anyone know your posting is/is not altered?

The difference IS Mr Argenio is a Village Trustee and Mr DeFreest is NOT. If you can't fathom the difference then you just don't have a clue. Sorry but the difference is HUGE.

Ms. Tomko:

Please assume assume whatever you want. It is obvious you do.
I ask you to get a copy of the Village minutes of said meeting and read for yourself. I would guess the statement is there, although, of that, I am not certain. Ask around, investigate. Sorry Ms. Tomko, it was said and occurred at the Village meeting.

Thank you.

I thought Andrew video taping the meetings was a positive and even told him so. Once he was elected to the Board though he should have ended his videotaping. Now with apparent selective omissions/editing I am more convinced then ever NO BOARD MEMBER should be taping the village meetings for just this very reason. If someone tapes the meeting it should be a non board member and the taping should NEVER have anything edited out. I'm sure everyone can agree with this much.

Ms Tomko
I was present at the meeting when Trustee Argenio made the comment and I also watched the video as soon as he posted it. I watched it again to notice that it was changed.

Not only should NO BOARD MEMBER be taping the meeting, for now obvious reasons, taping should be allowed only under permission of the board. I now realize any resident who wants to video tape could sway the views of the electorate with their own selective taping/editing. Taping should be disallowed by the board until they can agree on exactly who and in what fashion said video taping should be allowed. It's sad that it has come to this but it is now obvious that taping by Trustee Argenio should cease immediately. I think trust has been breeched and that's sad.

This is why it is important to have board policies/procedures in place. Board policies put in writing exactly what can/not be done by the board.(i.e. hiring relatives for Village work, etc.) If we had policies in place, our mega-exspensive yet uninhabitable DPW building would have been built elsewhere using proper bids, monies and securing appropriate permits. An experienced lawyer should assist in drafting the policies and those policies should be publicly posted. For now, since the videos bother you so much, simply stop watching them.

>>>For now, since the videos bother you so much, simply stop watching them.<<<

It is NOT a matter that the videos bother me rather that the video in question has be selectively edited. That is a serious breach of trust by a standing Trustee. He should cease and desist immediately his taping because this selective editing has eliminated all credibility to any neutrality. It becomes apparent once there is selective taping by a Trustee that politics becomes involved instead of a public service which is what ostensibly was the original intent.

"General duties of trustees

Trustees[1] have certain duties (some of which are fiduciary). These include the duty to:

* Carry out the expressed terms of the trust instrument
* Defend the trust
* Prudently invest trust assets
* Be impartial among beneficiaries
* Account for actions and keep beneficiaries informed
* Be loyal
* Not delegate
* Not profit
* Not be in a conflict of interest position
* Administer in the best interest of the beneficiaries"

I did not see anything that said a Trustee had to relinquish her/his private life. If you know that to be a legal part of being a Trustee, why isn't action being taken?
