Letters to the Editor: DPW Work Being Done Too Hastily

February 15, 2012

To the Editor:

The majority of three strikes again. Mayor Coyne and Trustees Edsall and Kane control the vote for our village government. They have an obligation to lead this village in fiscal responsible spending by making the best decisions with taxpayer money. Their blunt refusal to listen to reason has proven once again that they fail in this task. Their obvious goals as the current majority is to make bad decisions, while taking funds from important village budgets to fulfill their mistake with the DPW fallout.

They hide information from the other elected officials. They mislead the public with misinformation to cover up their lack of due diligence in finding working solutions. Now, in an act of pure insanity, they have systematically depleted funds for the fire department, police department, road maintenance, code officer, sidewalks, storm sewer maintenance, water department, riverfront revitalization, clerk expenses, consultant, crossing guard, and last but not least, completely depleted the contingency fund, totaling $189,000.

What are the stated goals of the current majority?  To rehab the failed DPW building.

The current majority did this despite being told they are violating the new public meetings Law that requires information be given to the public prior to the meeting. I believe the public has a right to know how their money is being spent, that services are being changed, and that they have a powerful voice in these decisions with a public hearing.

The ground is still frozen so the work can’t proceed till spring. Why the rush? Another meeting is scheduled in two weeks so the public can be informed and voice their concerns regarding this spending. Why would they rush to vote on such important spending?

This majority allows no compromise, no debate, and no input from me or Trustee Gosda. If we disagree, we get berated and insulted. It is so frustrating to be treated this way. After all, we were elected to make the best decisions to make the Village government and community run smoothly, and act as the voice of the people while remaining mindful of taxpayer money. Is this what their supporters truly want?

Andrew Argenio

There is 207000 dollars missing in the original transaction .
We have had the comptrollers report for months. They show major problems then. They are repeating them now

Andrew:

I watched your youtube video of the Village Board Meeting in order to see if what you refer to in your letter is all you say it is. There is plenty of room for debate.

From watching your own video, it would seem all bases have been covered with design, engineering, DEC, air quality, proper bid procedures etc. The board then voted in a majority vote to proceed with the building renovation in order to procure a CO and bring the building to modern design standards. I thought that was the goal all along.

I take serious umbrage with your statement of being back in the clubhouse again.

For an elected official to make that kind of statement at an official meeting in front of other members of the Board, Village employees and the public is deplorable.

I voted for you in the general election. My mistake. A mistake I will not repeat.

Thank you

I'm sure you find my comment deplorable. and not the over 200,000 dollars that's missing from building this building. the fact that we avoided the wicks laws illegally. these are the laws that guarantee us bidding of public projects. the report also says we failed to do our due diligence. the only board member still there is Mark Edsall A licensed engineer. Please take the same amount of time to read the report about your village. This is typical behavior. Try to insure due diligence And you were called name. That is deplorable The village ford failed the people back then. they're doing it again.

I always notice how calm and cool Mr Kane is at these meeting. He is an educated and the consummate professional and the village is lucky to have someone of his stature as a trustee. No Grandstanding from Mr Kane.

Kane has done nothing as trustee. He talks of the master plan but in 2 years did not fund it. audiovisual permits Zip, Road plan Zip Duncan ave Zip yacht club lease zip and a dog law that requires us to put our cats on leashes.

He is running he has done nothing. of course you attack me you have nothing else. $207000 missing 5.8 million in unacounted for transfers ..... lets attack Andrew. How does 2 out of five block anything? The DEC rules are there rules not mine. We actually have to obey the law as a village.Hmmm.

WOW, the anger being thrown back and forth here ... Interesting.

The $207,000 of "missing" money Andrew is referring to comes from the audit results from the NYS comptrollers audit.

The LDC signed a contract for $722,000, and the Village Board bonded $960,000 in 2005 that was turned over to the LDC for their use. The LDC spent $929,000, which is $207,000 more than was required by the contract.

Please see the NYS comptrollers audit at http://www.osc.state.ny.us/localgov/audits/villages/2012/cornwallonhudson.pdf

I urge all village residents to attend the meetings and observe the behavior of Mr Argenio and Mrs Gosda.

There you go. Make it personal. Not about the facts. Missing money, we attempt to do due diligence and its a portrayed obstruction by people on the campaign committee. Posing as "regular guys"

Like I said, village residents should judge for themselves.
