General News: Comprehensive Plan Revisions Set for Adoption

The Cornwall Town Council could vote to adopt the revised comprehensive plan as soon as Monday.
In a discussion at their work session this week, council members seemed ready to approve the comprehensive plan in its current form, with only one minor change that doesn’t require any further public comment.
By approving the proposals made by the comprehensive plan review, the council would override the comments made by the Orange County Planning Board. The only change likely to be incorporated is in the definition of affordable housing.
One aspect of the plan that would remain in place keeps the planned Cornwall Commons development as age-restricted senior housing. Attorneys for the development had sought more flexibility for the project, which has experienced problems as a result of the downturn in the housing market.
Gerald Jacobowitz, the attorney representing Cornwall Commons, has advocated to the town board to allow for multi-family and single-family units in the planned developments.
Jacobowitz said that if the board passes the comprehensive plan without making these changes, the owners would still try and come to an arrangement that fits within the comprehensive plan.
Comments:
Kudos to all who are holding the line on self imposed restrictions that are now out of favor.
