Tuskegee Airmen assisting in the presentation of tuition assistance grants to 10 college-bound high school seniors will highlight an exciting night of festivities on Saturday, February 4 at Anthony's Pier 9, on Route 9W in New Windsor. In its 14th year, the Maj. Gen. Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen Inc. will award $10,000 in grants to a delighted group of high school seniors from the Hudson Valley. (Tickets to the gala event can be purchased on line at www.tai-ny.org)
On this night, themed “Explore the Past...Shape the Future,” original World War II Tuskegee Airmen Dr. Roscoe Brown, Clayton Lawrence, Wilfred Defour, Dabney Montgomery and Floyd Carter, among others, are scheduled to appear. “This promises to be an extraordinary night,” said chapter president Lt. Col. (ret.) Glendon Fraser. “It will truly be a great night of history.” For the ninth consecutive year, the Trowell-Harris Chapter will have presented at least ten $1,000 grants. Since the inception of the Chapter, they will have awarded 125 grants totaling $135,000.
Dr. Julian Earls, former Director of the NASA John H. Glenn Research Center, will make the keynote address to the recipients and audience. In addition, WCBS-FM “#1 Classic Hits” morning show host DanTaylor will be the master of ceremonies as we recognize the grant recipients and our Trowell-Harris Chapter Honoree Alexandreena Dixon for her community service. Many corporate, community and political dignitaries will also be in attendance.
Tickets are available to all for purchase online at www.tai-ny.org or at 845-838-7848.
