Common sense seems to be in short supply lately. Everybody has to stick to a budget these days. Make the tough decisions and do what's best for the people of the village. Thank you for speaking up.

A STATE OF THE ART BREAKROOM a far cry from that, if that cost $10,000.00 then somebody made a big profit, I don't even think it cost that much to redo the entire building including flood damage. And secondly the rush has been that it is now going on 2 years and nothing has been getting done until recently . Third is that all we hear is this is for safety of our employees , the best thing that can happen for our safety is to get a move on with the building repairs so we can get back to work ALOT SAFER then what we are able to do at this point. The only people that know are the people whom actually work under the conditions we all do and unfortunately its not the ones whom always comment and write about the D.P.W building. The building is built and standing and the taxpayers are already paying , does it really make sense to pay on something if you cant use it. You have solutions and answers to fix and remedy the problems , so this is what needs to be done instead of trying to divert from making these repairs and stop confusing the taxpayers into believing everything you talk about is right..SOLUTION...FIX THE PROBLEMS... AND MOVE ON.. FYI this D.P.W. building also houses the water department too but that hasn't been mentioned none too often..

It is a very difficult situation when workers are displaced. The hardship that the employees have to endure has not been lost on anyone, whether it seems that way or not. I'm sorry if the "not" part is what has been conveyed.
However, we now have a 1 million dollar building that is not worth 1 million dollars and does not meet the DOS engineering standards.
This building will cost approximately half a million to fix making it about $1.5 million total
Perhaps, a solution that everyone could agree to would be for the Village employees to borrow the money themselves, privately - to take on the additional half a million dollars in corrections cost as their own private, personal debt. Then the employees would be 100% vested in where they work, and the residents will not have to foot the bill for the additional half million

The point to my last comment was - Yes, we recognize that the people are displaced while working. However, how many of those people have to pay the taxes to pay for these corrections, ON TOP of the taxes we are currently paying to cover the original cost?
We had a totally functioning DPW building on Hudson Street that was only 20 years old when this new Shore Road facility was built - The Hudson Street facility was worth $300,000 and we Bonded $900,000 to pay for this new one, without using any of the sale money to repay the Bond.
I am sorry TO the DPW employees for the hassle this is for you; however, there are many people who live here that cannot afford more money Bonded and tax increases like this.

Stop shaking my money tree! Last couple years it took a beating and I lost many branches I would urge the board to find other creative solutions.

Jim,
I don't think that any village resident wants you to have to work under difficult or unsafe conditions. But sometimes you can't actually see the danger around you. It sounds like the air quality reports were not good...so do you want to work in a building where the air quality is not good and you may be exposed to dangerous gases that could affect your health? That is why the DEC needs to complete their investigation before you go back in. They will determine if it is safe to work there and that the renovation project meets DEC standards. They may recommend changes to the project,so let's just wait for their approval. This building has cost the village a lot of money so we just want to make sure that we are making the right decisions this time.

I do understand both sides of the coin but the same people keep railroading the progress and if action to move forward was not taken like it has, the whole project would still be sitting idle. Until this year nothing has been accomplished and under the old administration we were asked to keep our comments to ourselves and not discuss our views and OPINIONS , THIS IS MY OPINION and I have every right to voice it as I though I did live in America where freedom of speech was free.

By the sounds of what I watched and listened to on the you tube video it was pretty clear that the air quality tests past and if they didn't I really don't believe the DEC would allow us to continue working out of our temporary headquarters , you know the one with the state of the art break room. And if that be the case then why is our health not an issue to be there now or for many past years, but could be if we move on and back into the main garage on the same piece of land separated by maybe 100 ft . Hmm don't make much sense to me .

First of all you are ignoring the fact that the test is artificially low due to the fact that the building was open when the test required that it be sealed. Second, there is methane Benzene Methylenechloride..... read the whole report. Also the DEC did not take this report. Its to the wrong standards . It is an incomplete submission and the methodology is in question.

Jim,
You are absolutely right that in the United States we all have freedom of speech and are entitled to state our opinion. You should never have been told not to. As for the DEC, they have not done their investigation yet so they would not tell you to leave the building. And, in the past, the land and building were not tested for methane or chemicals. We'll have to wait and see what the DEC has to say once they have completed their investigation.

I can not pay additional taxes either through property or higher water rates to help pay off the debt that the Village of Cornwall on Hudson has incurred. The idea of borrowing yet more money to fix something that we had already borrowed money in the first place is ludricrous. Village residents can not afford to simply take this and I believe that the Mayor, should be honest with all of us here and not force us to bear the brundt of past, present or future bad management.
