General News: Public Hearing on Dog Law
January 06, 2012
The town of Cornwall is poised to revamp its dog law and on Monday members of the public will have an opportunity to give their input on the issues involved.
The newly proposed law will make it easier to enforce prohibitions on dogs-at-large and off-leash, as well as clarify what is a dangerous dog and a service dog. It will also define what is unacceptable noise created by a dog barking.
Copies of the new ordinance are available for review at the town clerk’s office. The public hearing is set for 7:15 pm on Monday, January 9, just prior to the start of the town board’s monthly meeting.
Comments:
Attention all Dog Owners and Pet Lovers, please try to attend this public hearing.
As we try to help our elected officials make our community better, we also need to ensure we also protect our pets? freedom to continue enjoying what makes our community so special: the outdoors. One of the needed improvements to this ordinance is to better define the key potential restrictive term of what constitutes ?Habitual Barking?.
You do not want to be issued a summons because your pet happily receives visitors to your home and then later you find yourself in court having to consider accepting a plea bargain, ?if your dog does not bark again for six months, all will be ok, or alternatively your pet may have to be removed from your home?
As we consider all good neighbors, please also consider the silent voices of our Pets: They too are integral members of our community.
