General News: Valley View Book Seeks Public Input
January 01, 2012
A county legislator is compiling stories of people whose lives were impacted by the Valley View Nursing Home in Goshen , which is slated to close in six months, after a contentious fight over its future ended last month.
Myrna Kemnitz, who represents Monroe in the Orange County Legislature, says she will write a book based on the experiences and stories of people who have lived, worked or visited Valley View. She is also seeking historical information for the institution that dates back to the mid-19th century.
In a public appeal, Kemnitz asks people to contact her with stories of the staff, the atmosphere for residents and about the therapy and other medical services offered there. “I hope that you will want to share a lasting impression of your experience at Valley View, be it a simple remembrance about a particular event or person or a factual, detail-driven strong opinion-piece. Whether you write a paragraph or a page, your thoughts will add to the strength of the book. The more details you include, the better,” she says, adding that photographs and original art would be wonderful additions.
