To My Fellow Residents of Cornwall-on-Hudson:
My name is Peter Russell and I am pleased to announce my candidacy for a trustee position on the Cornwall-on-Hudson Village Board for the upcoming March 2012 election.
Cornwall-on-Hudson is a great community in a wonderful setting and I consider myself lucky to enjoy all the village has to offer. I stress community, however, because it is the village residents and their welcoming character that make the village such a great place to live. My wife and I raised our family here and all three of our children graduated from COH Elementary School.
My experience in public service includes over 24 years in law enforcement with the last 10 years in management positions. Locally, I have coached recreational soccer since my oldest child could kick a ball. I also have served on the Town of Cornwall Ethics Committee for more than five years and I have volunteered my time for numerous school and community functions.
Currently our village continues to struggle with many serious issues, such as a greatly downsized police department and a public works department without an operational headquarters. If we hope to resolve our problems we will need representation that overcomes conflict instead of cultivating it; representation that presents a clear vision for the future instead of focusing only on the past and representatives more interested in service then self-promotion.
As trustee, I will bring a skill set strong in problem resolution and crisis management to the village board. I am independent minded and I will express my opinions, but I understand that there is no progress without consensus. I know how to function on a team and I will focus on getting the job done for our village community.

I am so pleased to hear this news, although I no longer live in the Village I think you would make a thoughful and hard working trustee, with best interests of the Village as your goal. For the years that I have known you, you have shown yourself to be honest, reliable and trustworthy. I wish you the best of luck!
