To the Editor:
I am very thankful to the Village of Cornwall on Hudson. We had a great weather and great attendance for our annual Christmas tree lighting this past Sunday. I would like to thank the NYMA band members and the Stormy Weather Players that did a big part in adding the “home town feel” to the event. As usual Pete Osinski did a great job planning this and all the bandstand events.
The bandstand has been a central hub of village activity and enriched our lives through entertainment and social interaction. In an era where people don’t know their neighbors and receive a bounty of personal entertainment it is a joy to go “old school” and receive entertainment as a community. I want to thank our historian Colette Fulton for her years of tireless work on the bandstand and let her know how much it adds to our community. I could not help but notice that Santa got a ride to the Storm King Fire House. It was nice to be welcomed with open arms (and hot chocolate) by a volunteer organization that originally served this community with horses and a wagon pumper.
We are in hard times right now, but we have a lot to be thankful for. I think these hard times can act as a crucible and make us a stronger community. The former ways of bad planning and over spending should change into well thought out, sustainable government. We have millions in debt to pay off that developed over the last 20 years. We have a great small village -- our greatest strength is our people. We have hundreds of people who volunteer thousands of hours to this village and thousands of people who love this village as I do. I want to wish everyone Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
Thank you for this opportunity.

Comments:
Well said, Andrew! Sometimes we forget that we are meant to slow down and be thankful at this time of year. And all of us who occupy this special place have ample reason to do that.
So we join you both in thanking all the stewards of this community and in wishing peaceful, happy holidays to all.
