To the Editor:
On Monday night, the village board voted to go to bid for remediation of the Village DPW building.
Normally this would be good news. As of Tuesday, November 15th there are no stamped plans. At the vote last night I heard assurances that they would get stamped plans later. These assurances were not enough for me to vote for this because I have gotten other promises that were not kept before from this administration.
There are no stamped plans, we have no results from air quality testing on a site that is a former landfill and we have not contacted the Department of Environmental Conservation about digging in a closed landfill (a requirement).
This project is estimated to cost $360,000. This includes the village workers doing insulation, sheet rock, electrical, paving, and disposal of soil that is dug out of the landfill. Originally the village passed a bond for $900,000 to pay for this project and sold the old D.P.W. for $350,000.
I will not vote for this project without seeing stamped plans, clean air quality results, and D.E.C. approval of this project. I think it is unfortunate for the residents that (Trustees) Kane, Edsall and (Mayor) Coyne approved going to bid on this project without resolving these important outstanding issues.
Thank you.
