The Orange County Arts Council presented a Cornwall High School senior an award on Thursday for his skills and accomplishments on the keyboard.
Ryan Kennedy was honored as the Youth with Exceptional Promise at the council’s annual gala dinner held at the Harness Racing Museum in Goshen.
Kennedy has been playing the piano since he was five years old and says that when he was ten he realized that piano was the most important thing in his life. Since then he has expanded to perform on the organ and is the organist at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Newburgh.
He has twice been a prizewinner at the Long Island Conservatory/LISMA International Piano Competition and studied composition and organ performance at Oberlin Conservatory and McGill University in Montreal. An honors piano student of Dr. Mikhail Zeiger at the Music Conservatory of Westchester, Kennedy is setting sights on college, with the Yale School of Music topping his short list. He says his professional goal is to conduct opera and he has been working with the Opera Company of the Highlands since 2008.
Comments:
Congratulations to Ryan Kennedy. Having heard Ryan play the Piano when he was in Grammar school it was quite evident he had an extremely rare gift. He is an extrordinay young man and we're all proud of him.
