General News: Cornwall Football Advances to Semi-Finals

They were the underdogs going in to Friday’s match up against Poughkeepsie in the state Class A quarterfinal game but the Cornwalll Dragons came out with a solid victory. The Poughkeepsie team has a reputation for speed but the Dragons proved just as fleet a few minutes into the game. By half-time the Dragons had a 38-19 lead over Poughkeepsie, with Kevin McNally making two touchdowns and Mike White teaming up with Joe O'Rourke for a touchdown play.
By the end of the game, Cornwall had maintained its momentum, defeating Poughkeepsie 44-19.
Cornwall (10-1) will meet either Burnt Hills (9-1) or Malone (9-1) in the Class A state semifinals at 8 p.m. next Friday at Dietz. Poughkeepsie, which was playing in the state playoffs for the first time, finished its season at 10-1.
