November 10, 2011
The actor Michael J. Fox came down from his Manhattan apartment on Sunday in order to meet and shake the hand of Michael Kelly, a fellow Parkinson Disease patient who ran the New York Marathon this Sunday. Anyone could follow the progress of the marathon this year with a neat online application that showed the position of the runner and his or her pace. As Kelly neared Fox's apartment, the actor came downstairs.
Kelly and his two daughters, Jennie and Mary, ran the marathon to support the Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research. Dad came in first in the grueling 26.2 mile race with a time of 5:40:31. Jennie finished next: at 5:56:17 and Mary at 6:16:00. Wife Ellen reports that they had lots of friends and family there rooting them on. There were 200 Team Fox Runners, five with Parkinsons. "It was a very touching moment when Michael Fox came out of his house at mile 23 and embraced and thanked Michael for running," Ellen said.
