Letters to the Editor: Beesecker Best Choice for Town Justice

November 07, 2011

To the Editor;

Elect Lynn Beesecker to the position of Cornwall Town Justice. Mr. Beesecker has been an attorney for thirty-four years. He has a well-established record as an accomplished Cornwall attorney, arbitrator and has a history of providing service to the community. Mr. Beesecker, in his professional career as an attorney, has represented clients in Hudson Valley and New York City Courts. In fact, Mr. Beesecker has spent more time in court representing clients within the legal system than the two incumbent Cornwall Justices.

As a court-appointed arbitrator, Mr. Beesecker has adjudicated cases for over twenty-five years in Orange County Courts and within the New York City Civil Court system. Mr. Beesecker’s function as an arbitrator, which is similar to a judge, has been to preside over a process of alternative dispute resolution. As a court appointed arbitrator, Mr. Beesecker has served in a quasi-judicial system which provides an option to the expense and delays of the legal system.

Mr. Beesecker has also demonstrated a strong commitment to community service in the town of Cornwall. He has served on the Board of Trustees for the United Methodist Church; sixteen years service to the Cornwall Little League in the capacity of league umpire, umpire chief and currently holds the position as Little League Vice President. Mr. Beesecker also has coached soccer and has provided his time as a scout leader.

Town Justice Courts are courts in New York State which adjudicate traffic violations, misdemeanors, civil cases which include small claims, criminal arrangements and local code violations such as zoning issues. The Town Justice has discretion regarding the manner in which cases are processed with respect to court procedures which result in substantive outcomes.

Mr. Beesecker’s long-standing professional credentials establishes that he is eminently qualified for the position of Cornwall Town Justice. His commitment and well-established record of community service is consistent with the level of dedication required of the Town Justice position. In looking to Cornwall’s future, Mr. Beesecker is the best choice for the position of Town Justice.

Arthur J. Davidson
Chairman, Cornwall Democratic Committee
