General News: Schools Set to Open Tuesday; Caution Urged
October 31, 2011
All Cornwall schools will re-open on Tuesday, November 1, according to a recorded message from schools superintendent Timothy Rehm that went out at 6 pm tonight. In the message, Rehm explains that power was restored to Cornwall-on-Hudson Elementary School and the Cornwall Middle School on Monday afternoon. Schools were closed on Monday due to power outages that have affected both residents and schools in the district.
Superintendent Rehm cautions that transportation delays may occur on Tuesday following the weekend snowstorm that caused trees to fall, bringing down wires, across the district.
Large areas of the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson and parts of the town of Cornwall outside the main business district are still without power. In a late afternoon update, Central Hudson reported that dry ice is now available for Orange County residents without power at the Dan Leghorn Firehouse at 426 South Plank Road in the town of Newburgh. A shelter has also been opened in the town of Newburgh, at its recreation center on Route 32. Call 2-1-1 for details.
