Police have charged two 18-year-olds with several counts of second degree criminal tampering, a class A misdemeanor, for allegedly opening six fire hydrants in the Town of Cornwall during the early hours of October 9.
Cornwall Police Chief Todd Hazard said that the first was charged Sunday, October 16, with two counts of second degree criminal tampering, and the second one was charged Tuesday October 18 with four counts of the same. Both teens’ names were withheld because they qualify for youthful offender status.
The arrests follow an investigation by Cornwall police after finding six hydrants along Quaker Avenue and Laurel Avenue opened, allowing water gush freely from the hydrants in the early morning hours of October 9.
Hazard said the teens were also being charged with similar charges by the Town of Woodbury police who believe the pair could be responsible for similar incidents in their jurisdiction.
