Letters to the Editor: Hike & Bike Returns This Sunday

September 23, 2011

To the Editor:

I am pleased to report that the Storm King Hike and Bike has been extended to November 20th with one exception. There will be the walk/run for Parkinson’s research on October 2nd and I encourage everyone to support that great event. The Hike and Bike has been a successful event. Our last day, prior to the storm, we had over 600 people attend.

I am also happy to report that the board unified in voting for the village code to be put online. This will assist the public by letting them know what laws affect the residents, their homes and their daily lives. I am happy to empower the residents in this way. I am glad to have supported this issue during the election and it is now paid for with the support of the board. I am also pleased that the Village board listened to my urgings and has put their garbage services to bid. With competitive bidding, the village wins. I am sorry to say that we had some losses during the storm. Our records room at the Shore Road DPW was flooded when the building was swamped with four feet of water. Unfortunately, there was equipment damaged. There were 22 pieces of equipment that were damaged from the DPW department.

The water department had some losses also. The water department had wells flooded, roads washed out and pump controls destroyed. Through all these challenges we had clean safe drinking water for our residents. I am thoroughly impressed with our water department for accomplishing this task. I also would like to thank the fire department for all the volunteer work that they have done and do. The police department was outstanding, along with COVAC, and the DPW made it seem like business as usual. I would also like to thank the residents that volunteered to clean up the riverfront after the storm it was great to see people pull together.
I am also pleased notify that we will be having another dialogue with the village on Saturday, September 24th at 10 am. We look forward to listening to the issues of the residents.

So, here are the dates: September 24th - dialogue with the village; October 2nd - Walk for Parkinson’s Research; Every Sunday, 11am to 3pm until November 20th - Hike and Bike.

Thank You.

Comments:

Andrew, 218 sadly looks like a garbage dump! Can we possibly add a cleanup day to the Hike and Bike?

We clean every weekend as much as we can. After the last state closure the DOT did a fantastic job! There was almost no garbage. (Except the sign hung at highpoint) if we need a formal cleanup day I will remind the public. Thanks Kurt!

Why are there so many "I's" in this letter?
