General News: COH Recognizes DPW, Fire Co. Storm Service
September 20, 2011
The village of Cornwall-on-Hudson passed two resolutions Monday to recognize the service of village employees during Tropical Storm Irene.
Deputy mayor Mark Edsall introduced a resolution recognizing the outstanding effort of department of public works employees during and immediately after the tropical storm that hit the region the last weekend of August. The resolution, which was passed unanimously, approved a special holiday on Monday, September 26, for the DPW employees. Garbage collection will not occur in the village that day but will be picked up for the entire village on Tuesday, September 27.
In addition, Trustee Barbara Gosda introduced a second resolution that singled out the Storm King Fire Engine Company #2 for its service during the tropical storm. Members of the fire company responded to 107 calls for assistance, with a total of some 700 hours of service during and after the storm. Fire company members provided rope rescues of residents trapped in their homes by the rushing waters down Mountain Road and pumped out the flooded basements of dozens of home owners.
In recognition of the fire company’s service, the board agreed to cater the next meeting of the fire company and the next meeting of the company’s ladies auxiliary.
Comments:
And the police? I know that some officers were working around the clock as well...will they be acknowledged?
Cheers to the DPW and fire department! and to our police officers!
