General News: Build A Magical Miniature House
September 16, 2011
From the Cornwall Public Library
On Saturday, September 24, at 10 a.m., children and parents will begin combing the woods surrounding Cornwall Public Library to find the perfect spot to build their magical miniature house. All participants are invited to bring bags filled with ‘building materials’ – any natural element from Mother Nature that has already fulfilled its purpose and was found lying on the ground: Sticks, twigs, fallen leaves, pine cones, garden refuse, bark, shells, stones, nuts, driftwood, seed pods, sea glass, vines -- anything your imagination can find a use for. Materials will be pooled and the library’s portico will became “Mother Nature’s Building Supply Center” from which everyone can select what they need.
“This is the sixth year for our Magical Miniature House Build event. Participants get to select an actual site for their home such as a small cavern beneath a big old tree or at the foot of a boulder,” said Liz Fisher, originator of the program. “Children have a wonderful imagination and are extremely creative when planning and building their structures.”
Parents are encouraged to come along, get involved, or simply have a wonderful time watching the activity. “It’s a marvelous way for kids to get to know some of the most special aspects of nature and its beauty,” said Karen LaRocca-Fels, Library Director.
Pre-registration is required. The rain date is Sunday, September 25th beginning at 1:00 p.m. For more information or to register, please call the library at 534-8282.
