To the Editor:
Last week there were several letters from people regarding the DPW facility, one from myself included. These letters tend to generate heated discussion from residents, and the Editor of the website suggested that we create a site specifically to discuss the issue.
I thought that was a wonderful idea, so I went to Google Groups and created a discussion forum regarding the DPW Garage Facility. The discussion forum is called “COH DPW”, and you can easily find the page by going to Google Groups and searching for “COH DPW”. I sent out invites to several people that I had email addresses for, but the site is open for everyone to join, so I wanted to put out an invitation to everyone.
I have the page set up so that as the owner, I am the only one who can see what the member list is. Basic members who have joined the site are not able to see the list of who is a member.
What does that means? Anyone who joins the site, but does not post on it, can remain anonymous. You can read the posts, and have the access of a member, without having others in the community know you have joined.
The site is not going to be moderated, the posts go up as you post them, and the word count is not limited. I encourage everyone who has been vocal on this issue to join the site and participate in open back and forth discussions there.
This COH DPW Google Groups page is not meant to replace the current News from Cornwall and Cornwall-on-Hudson site. I only mean for it to be a place where we can discuss this topic, without clogging up the current COH forum website with posts and discussions about only one issue. I think it would be respectful to the editor, as well as other individuals, if we work on taking the discussions to a designated place.
I currently have a post started asking people for alternate solutions to bonding the money needed to make the repairs to the building. If the money is bonded, it will be levied on our taxes. In these hard times it is going to be a major burden on many of the taxpayers who are already struggling. I encourage people who have already spoken out, as well as others, to join the COH DPW discussion group and give some input as to your ideas. I intend to make a spread sheet of people’s ideas, so that we can determine how many people agree with a particular idea, how many different ideas there are, and what percentage of people support a particular suggestion. I think that the public’s input is something that the Board should consider at this time.
