General News: Phone Lines Out at Town Hall
August 19, 2011
Two important phone lines at Cornwall Town Hall are not working and folks are steamed that Verizon can't fix them for ten days..
The main line to the supervisor's office, 534-3770, hasn't been working for more than two days and repairs aren't scheduled until August 29th. One of the town clerk's two primary lines is not functioning either and deputy clerk Renata McGee says that the primary line, 534-9100, does not rollover, so people calling could think that no one is answering the phone in the clerk's office. That repair is not going to happen until September 3.
A strike by 45,000 Verizon repair people and other technicians that began two weeks ago has interrupted customer service nationwide.
Deputy clerk McGee says her concern is that members of the public know that they can still reach the town clerk's office by phone if they are patient. "Please keep trying to get ahold of us," she said. "We do want to hear from you."
Supervisor Quigley expressed his frustration in an email message, "What an operation," he wrote. "Can't make this stuff up."
